Abstract

This paper discusses the relationship between formal knowledge and knowledge of practice, in teaching and learning. This relationship is articulated on the dialectic between knowledge and knowledge to teach. The article is divided into three parts. In the first part we will research this dialectic in the didactic approaches that belong to the pedagogical tradition, from the twentieth century to today. Then we will discuss this dialectic by placing it within an extended Theory of Didactic Transposition. In this framework we will discuss the idea of Social Reference Knowledge as knowledge to be transposed didactically. Finally, in the third part, we will address the implications of this dialectic on scholastic learning.
