"The terms related to individuals that appear only in the masculine form in this document refer indiscriminately to both female and male individuals. Gender-neutral expressions have been omitted in order not to compromise the readability of the text and to satisfy the need for simplicity".

 

Article 1 – Establishment

The scientific journal MeTis. Molding Environments. Themes, Inquiries, Suggestions, which promotes scientific research and the development of studies in the field of pedagogical and educational disciplines, hereby establishes, effective from the year 2025, the “MeTis Award.”

The MeTis Award aims to emphasize the importance of teamwork in the production of scientific essays on the national and international stage. Curatorship (distinct from multi-authored monographs—typically indicated with the abbreviation AA.VV.—and from collective volumes that may present disparate themes) is, in our view, one of the main and most generative formats of writing that promotes reflection, knowledge, and action in the pedagogical-educational field. For this reason, the Scientific Direction Committee of MeTis has decided to dedicate appropriate recognition to this format of scientific research organization, in order to promote and consolidate a modus operandi that facilitates dialogue among multiple voices, minds, theories, and hearts, serving as a pioneering and generative passage to new ways of thinking, doing, living, and promoting education, instruction, and training.

The MeTis Award is autonomous, independent, and grants equal dignity to all participants, ensuring complete impartiality in judgment. The MeTis Award operates nationally and internationally. Any works in languages other than Italian or English must be accompanied by a translation into Italian.

 

Article 2 – Object of the Award

The MeTis Award is reserved for curatorial works (volumes that collect essays by multiple authors, coordinated by one or more curators) published in the two calendar years preceding the opening of the call for applications. Participation in the Award occurs through a nomination by the curators (mandatory for all). Nominations from volumes curated by authors who have already been awarded in the previous three years are not accepted.

The prize for the Essay Section (see Article 4, letter a) consists of a Plaque for each winning curatorial work, accompanied by a diploma of recognition with the jury's motivation.

The prize for the Multimedia Section consists of a Plaque for the winning work, accompanied by a diploma of recognition with the jury's motivation.

 

Article 3 – Participation

Participation in the MeTis Award is open and free of charge.

The curator(s) can participate in only one section of the Award.

If a member of the jury is one of the authors of the curatorship, they shall refrain from expressing their opinion on said curatorship, ensuring absolute non-interference in the evaluation.

 

Article 4 – Award Sections

1. Essay Section

This section is further divided into 4 subsections, each of which has a prize.

- This section includes scientific works related to pedagogical and educational interests of a theoretical-epistemological and heuristic-methodological nature, aimed at providing theoretical, procedural, and empirical foundations for the development of pedagogical, educational, training, project, and instruction competencies necessary for the care, growth, and promotion of the individual, contexts, and educational and pedagogical professionalism, in a democratic perspective of social inclusion. This section primarily pertains to issues related to General Pedagogy, Social Pedagogy, Research Methodology in Education, Philosophy of Education, Family Pedagogy, Work and Training Pedagogy, Intercultural Pedagogy, Gender Difference Pedagogy, Lifelong Learning and Adult Education, Marginality and Deviance Pedagogy, Pedagogy for Well-being, Emancipation, Inclusion, and Psychopedagogy.

- This section also includes scientific works related to pedagogical and educational interests concerning the history of education and pedagogy, the history of schools, universities, and educational institutions, the history of didactics, special education, and physical and sports education, comparative education, the history of educational historiography, literature and media for children and youth in their historical, literary, artistic, and pedagogical dimensions. This section primarily addresses issues related to the History and Historiography of Pedagogy and Education, the Comparative History and Historiography of Education, the History and Historiography of Schools and Educational Institutions, and the Theory and History of Children's Literature.

- This section includes scientific works concerning theoretical, epistemological, and empirical research interests related to didactics as the science of educational design (didactic and educational planning), as an art of interaction, Universal Design for Learning, and special pedagogical and inclusive didactic issues. This section primarily addresses issues related to General Didactics, Special Pedagogy and Didactics, Methodologies for Inclusion, and Methodologies and Techniques of Play and Animation.

- This section includes scientific works concerning theoretical, epistemological, and methodological interests with an applied, empirical, and experimental approach on learning-teaching processes of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competences, from an inclusive perspective, particularly regarding the themes of assessment, measurement, verification, and evaluation of learning processes and outcomes, evaluation of methodologies and intervention styles of educational and training figures, system evaluation of the relationships between socioeconomic factors, cultural policies, quality and equity of educational systems, design and evaluation of multimedia learning environments, and methodologies and tools of educational, didactic, and docimological research. This section primarily relates to issues concerning Experimental Pedagogy, Docimology, Media Education and e-learning, and the Evaluation of products, processes, and systems.

2. Multimedia Section

This section includes multimedia works resulting from the work or collaboration of multiple authors and/or research centers, both published and unpublished, and related to the same themes as the “Essay” section (e.g. documentaries, theater performances, short films, musical works, commercials, etc.).

A single prize is awarded for this section.

Winners will be invited to present their project at the awards ceremony.

 

Article 5 – Commission

The Award Commission consists of the Director of the Journal and all members of the Scientific Direction Committee of MeTis (possibly organized into subcommittees). They will be joined by four members of the scientific committee of the journal, one for each section.

 

Article 6 – Participation Procedures

For the "Essay" section, volumes must be submitted via email in accessible .pdf format to each member of the Commission by May 30th.

By the same date, a printed copy must be sent to:

Printed volumes and .pdfs submitted after the deadline of May 30th each year will not be considered.

Both printed and digital volumes must be submitted together with the registration form (MeTIS AWARD – Registration Form).

The registration form (in printed format if accompanying a printed text or digital in all other cases) and the work submitted for the award must arrive together. Works submitted without the registration form will not be accepted.

Winning volumes, along with the statements, will be announced by November 15th.

Works submitted will not be returned and will be donated to the Library of the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Foggia.

 

For the Multimedia section, selection will be based on the evaluation of the documentation submitted along with the “MeTIS AWARD – Registration Form” and any attachments (images, videos, photographs, etc.). The Commission may request additional information or materials to proceed with the evaluation if deemed necessary. The deadlines for submitting the registration form are the same as those specified for the Essay section.

 

Article 7 – Awards Ceremony

The award presentation will take place in conjunction with the organization of a study day with a public ceremony, by February 28th of the following year.

The list of finalists will be made public through publication on the MeTis page dedicated to the Award and the news spread via the information channels used by MeTis.

 

Article 8 – Final Provisions

Participation in the competition implies acceptance of these regulations. Pursuant to Legislative Decree 196/2003 and the previous Law 675/1996, participants consent to the processing, dissemination, and use of personal data by the organization or third parties for the fulfillment of obligations related to the competition. Participants declare that they are the authors of their works. Participation in the competition automatically grants the Promoting Entity the right to reproduce the submitted images in catalogs and other publications aimed at promoting the event and the locations where the image is set, without profit.
